A Tale of Two Entwistles

I have recently uploaded ten of my published articles to this website. Three are reports of research breakthroughs that appeared in genealogical journals over the last half-dozen years. Then there are seven articles on varied aspects of Fleming family history published in The Deed, magazine of the Clan Fleming Scottish Society. These are all available from the Articles page.

Today I have added the first of three articles from the Twissle Times, magazine of the Entwistle Family History Association. These articles chronicle how a family in rural Lancashire was torn apart in the early 19th century by the adverse social impacts of the industrial revolution.

The first of the three focusses on two cousins who were caught up in this upheaval, Harry and Henry Entwistle. Their responses to privation diverged dramatically, yet their lives ended in equally tragic fashion.

The second in this series of three articles will show how these events affected Harry’s wife Martha, their son William and his wife Ann (nee Yates). Later, the third article will examine the impact on the family of Harry’s sister Betty.
